        1.6    OZ           CHICKEN BASE
        16    OZ           HAM                        ½” DICE
        1       TS           BLACK PEPPER
        2      TS           MARJORAM
        1                       BAY LEAVES
        20    OZ           POTATOES             ½” DICE
ABOUT 5 MEDIUM POTATOES.
BRING TO SIMMER-SIMMER TILL VEGETABLES & PEAS ARE SOFT.
REMOVE BAY LEAF.

WHEN BUTTER IS HOT ADD
        8      OZ           ONIONS                ½” DICE
        8      OZ           CELERY                   ½” DICE
        8      OZ           CARROTS               ½” DICE
COOK FOR 4-5 MINUTES & ADD
COOKING VEGETABLES IN BUTTER BRINGS OUT THE FAVOR.
        1       CLOVES  GARLIC                   MINCED
DO NOT OVERCOOK GARLIC, IT WILL GET BITTER
COOK FOR 1/2 MINUTE & ADD
        1 /2     GAL         WATER
        1       #           SPLIT PEAS  RINSE & REMOVE ROCKS, ETC.
        1                       HAM STEAK
        4     SLICES    THICK SLICED BACON
BACON ADDS A NICE SMOKEY FLAVOR          
        1       TS           BLACK PEPPER
        2      TS           MARJORAM
        1                       BAY LEAVES
        20    OZ           POTATOES             ½” DICE
ABOUT 5 MEDIUM POTATOES
BRING TO BOIL-SIMMER FOR 45 MINUTES
REMOVE HAM, DICE & RETURN TO SOUP
DISCARD BAY LEAF & BACON OR YOU TRIM FAT & RETURN MEAT TO SOUP
COOK UNTIL VEGETABLES ARE SOFT & PEAS ARE BROKEN DOWN.
